London is one of the best cities in the world for those who love fashion and can be enjoyed whatever the weather! With everything from vintage fairs and fashion markets to luxury department stores and royal fashion exhibitions, London really does have it all. Whatever your age, interest or budget, you’ll definitely find fashion attractions you will want to visit over and over again.
London truly is a treasure trove of wonderful days out, which is why here at Luxiere we thought we would share some of our favourite attractions for fashion days out in London.
Fashion & Textile’s Museum
In the heart of Bermondsey Village, The Fashion and Textile Museum is dedicated to all aspects of contemporary fashion, textiles and jewellery. The museum hosts a range of temporary exhibitions, such as the current Missoni Art Colour exhibition, as well as a number of talks, workshops and courses at its fashion school.
Old Spitalfields Market
Spitalfields, London’s oldest market is open seven days a week and is described as a place where art and craft meet fashion and food. Enjoy browsing a variety of stalls and stores selling everything from cutting edge fashion to vintage items and contemporary accessories. We also love the Saturday Style market showcasing goods from up to 88 independent designers.
Victoria &Albert Museum
The Victoria & Albert museum holds the world’s largest and most comprehensive collection of dress, spanning over five centuries, including many rare pieces. You will find everything from 17th century gowns to 1930s evening wear and post-war couture. Catch the special exhibition ‘Undressed: A Brief History of Underwear’ throughout 2016.
V&A Clothworkers’ Centre
In associate with Victoria & Albert Museum, The Clothworkers’ Centre for the study and conservation of textiles and fashion is located at Blythe House and is open to visitors and groups by appointment only. The centre aims to provide an opportunity for those wishing to study and research the museum’s collection of fashion and textile collections in a quiet and comfortable study environment.
Kensington Palace – Fashion Rules Restyled
The Fashion Rules Restyled exhibition at Kensington Palace enables visitors to relive recent decades of fashion, taking a look back at the wardrobes of Her Majesty The Queen, Princess Margaret and Diana, Princess of Wales. The exhibition has recently been ‘restyled’ with new dresses from each collection and explores how they reflected the fashions of the era.
You can easily spend hours wandering through this luxury department store browsing fashion collections from designers, including Alexander McQueen, Valentino, Burberry, Victoria Beckham and many more. Once you’ve finished shopping and browsing all the beautiful things, why not take a break at one of the delightful restaurants, cafes or bars. And be sure to check out the magnificent window displays before you leave!
